Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Forest Care Home Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Forest Care Home Limited are committed to making significant carbon reductions to minimise our carbon emissions. This will be the first year our emissions are recorded, reviewed, and reported on. This will allow us to focus on reducing our carbon footprint and work towards Net Zero by 2030. | |

Emissions reduction targets
Forest Care Home Limited is a responsible company, we respect our environment and the potential climate impact of our work. In order for us to achieve Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:
- Increase efficiency within our premises, embracing renewable energy contracts and installing energy efficient lighting and appliances.
- Map and understand all Scope 2 and 3 supply chain emissions.
- Work with suppliers to minimise or offset residual supply chain emissions.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease to Net Zero tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of 100% against our 2024 baseline.
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2024 baseline. These measures will be in effect when performing the contract:
Local Supply Chain – We will further reduce transportation impacts by buying locally wherever possible. Our main supply chain spends are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and office essentials. We will commit to ensuring 80% of our supply chain is through local SME/MSMEs within 20 miles of our sites.
Renewable Energy Contracts – Electricity and Gas usage within the Care Home accounts for a significant portion of our carbon emissions. To help reduce these carbon emissions, we will investigate renewing our energy contracts to offer either 100% renewable gas and electricity, or are offsetting emissions, for example, by planting trees on our behalf.
Upgrading Lighting – We will replace all lighting within our premises with LED bulbs, which use 90% less energy and have a longer lifespan.
Reducing Waste to Landfill – We currently have recycling bins at our Care Home, ensuring all materials that are recyclable and placed in the appropriate recycling bins and recycled to reduce our waste to landfill. Staff, residents, and visitors to the Care Home are made aware of our recycling initiatives through posters promoting this initiative throughout the Care Home.
In the future, we will continue delivering across the initiatives listed above, and implement the following further measures:
Annual Energy Audit – We will use BRE Group’s UK Government endorsed Care Home Energy Efficiency Tool as a benchmark for assessing our Care Home’s energy efficiency. This will help us identify and implement energy efficiency improvements that could be made across the premises and allow us to investigate whether we are eligible for funding to help with the cost of improvements.
Electric Fleet – We will be investigating investing in an electric fleet when our existing company vehicles are due to be replaced. This will reduce carbon emissions from staff travel, which includes attending conferences and meetings, and visiting resident’s family.
Increasing Premises Efficiency – Efficiencies to be made to our premises could include increasing insulation through installing energy efficient doors and windows to help reduce heat loss and increase efficiency.
Motion Sensors – We will identify areas of the premises that would be suitable for installing motion sensor lighting to reduce unnecessary usage of the lighting and install these where applicable.
Energy Efficient Appliances – As appliances throughout the premises, such as ovens, fridges, and televisions, require replacing, we will replace them with appliances with higher energy-efficient ratings.
PPE Recycling – We will identify local companies that provide Eco Friendly PPE recycling and recycling points to allow us to recycle PPE wherever possible, helping minimise landfill waste.
PPE Monitoring – We will monitor individual PPE consumption by staff to assess significant increases in usage and minimise where possible.
Reducing Single-Use Plastics – Where possible, all use of single-use plastics, such as packaging materials and plastic cutlery, will be replaced with alternatives. We will also bulk buy consumables and other regularly purchased items to reduce plastic packaging and target 100% reuseable utensils, bottles, plates, and cutlery within our premises.
